After a false start with another builder, we came to Refined Edge with an architectural plan that we loved but was unlikely to ever make it off the page, given our grand design ideas and our tight budget. In the end we couldn’t be happier with the way Mike Burke and his team worked with us and made it come to life.
With some clever design modifications and careful selection of materials and finishes, we were able to retain all of the mid-century design elements that we loved and yet still make it fit our budget without it feeling like a compromise. The finished product speaks for itself. We love it!
As first-time builders, we were of course a little apprehensive about going down the design-and-build path, having heard lots of nightmare stories from others who vow “never again”. And yet our journey with Refined Edge was a very smooth and enjoyable one from start to finish.
Throughout both the design and construction phases, everyone we dealt with at Refined Edge was clearly on top of their game and loved what they do. From Mike Burke himself, to Erin and Tim in the office and Steve on site, everyone was always professional, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They took our design ideas on board and came up with others of their own, such that the whole process very much felt like a joint effort.
One thing we found particularly impressive during the build was that most of the tradespeople on site, across the various trades, seemed to know each other, having worked together on Brian Burke/Refined Edge homes for years. In one case it’s even a second-generation relationship between tradesperson and builder, with our cabinetmaker Adrian’s father having worked with Mike Burke’s father many years ago. It was obvious that they all took pride in their work. The result is that superb quality of finish that Brian Burke/Refined Edge are known for.
We are very comfortable in our beautiful new home. We would recommend Brian Burke/Refined Edge to anyone looking to build.
