IN THE PRESS: Refined adaptability

Creating a home which grows alongside the family is no easy feat, but this Ardross custom build courtesy of Refined Edge by Brian Burke Homes does just that.

Brian Burke Homes Group Managing Director Michael Burke said the aim was to meet the dynamic lifestyle needs of the resident family of four, from rapidly-growing children to housing visitors and accommodating working from home.

“It’s an adaptable home with flexible living areas that will evolve with the changing needs of the family,” he said. “A true family home where everyone is catered for.”

The functional four-bedroom, three-bathroom abode includes room for everyone thanks to a clever floor plan separated into zones for parents, kids, living and guests.

Through a solar-passive design maximising the east-west orientation of the lot, the northern sun illuminates the backyard, alfresco and internal living areas, resulting in a build bathed in natural light. Mr Burke said a distinctive sense of space was created, with ample storage ensuring clutter stayed under control.

“There is a drop zone as you enter the garage to keep all the schoolbags and mess out of the main living areas,” he said.

“The guest suite by the front door is a separate zone that can be left alone when not in use, along with a rumpus room that opens up onto the backyard and doubles as a work-from-home office or private TV room for visiting guests.”

Tiled floors throughout the main living areas absorb heat in the colder months and ensure the home remains cosy and warm.

“It feels as though there is underfloor heating throughout the area,” Mr Burke said.

A massive kitchen, living and dining space with generously sized windows pops with natural wood textures and is a personal highlight for Mr Burke. The kitchen features a central island with plenty of bench space, a separate scullery and a walk-in pantry.

Connected to an undercover alfresco with a built-in kitchen including a sink and barbecue, the space is an entertainer’s delight. Guests can enjoy the view of an immaculate outdoor area, which also features a modern pool surrounded by gardens.

At the rear of the home, a massive master suite boasts a makeup nook, walk-in robe and trendy ensuite complete with dual mirrors and vanities, making daily rituals a breeze.

Mr Burke said the master and the commodious living areas of the home all opened up to the backyard area for a seamless indoor-outdoor lifestyle.

Upstairs is the kids’ retreat, with a flexible study and two bedrooms providing privacy for the youngest members of the family when desired.

Throughout the home, bold black finishes sit dramatically against raw textures and pristine white with splashes of greenery.

Chic and contemporary, it is evident the home’s design was influenced by the cubist minimalism of Bauhaus architecture, Mr Burke said, adding the property was a true representation of a Refined Edge build.
