IN THE PRESS: Dream home in good shape
While an awkwardly shaped block subdivided block initially seemed like a challenge, some clever design tweaks took care of the issue in this Applecross custom build.
Looking to exploit every inch of the unusually shaped block, a pair of empty nester clients picked Refined Edge to design their home.
The couple wanted a four-bedroom, two-bathroom abode that could be used as a single-storey downsizer, while also having enough space on the second storey for visitors to stay overnight.
Using strategically angled walls that complemented the many north-facing windows, the builder was able to bring its clients’ dream to fruition.
The home uses a blend of interesting materials and textures, something that is immediately evident from its striking facade.
“Bricks have been used to contrast against a neutral render and combine with a custom splay gutter,” Brian Burke Group Managing Director Michael Burke told New Homes.
“Stained ply lining and a thermopanel garage door give the contemporary elevation an urban feel, especially given the darker colour palette.”
To make the most of available space, the clients decided to forego traditionally separate spaces for a laundry and scullery and instead combined both into one, creating a single multipurpose room.
At the heart of the home, the living room is unveiled through a set of stacker doors which open to the alfresco.
“This creates a combined entertaining space for family and friends to spill out onto,” Mr Burke said.
“Some can be watching the game on the TV while others are cooking in the alfresco, overseeing kids on the lawn or cooling off in the pool.”
Outstanding extras including a wine cellar, a gleaming kitchen, a spacious study, terrazzo-look tiles to main floors and bathrooms and keyless entry lift the home to the heights of luxury.
